।। திருமூலர் திருமந்திரம் - இரண்டாம் தந்திரம் - 2. பதிவலியில் வீரட்டம் எட்டு - பாடல் 6 ( திருமந்திரத்தில் பாடல் 344 )- பொருள் ।।
இந்த புராணநிகழ்வு நடந்த இடம் திருவழுவூர் தலமாகும்.
தாருகா வனத்திலிருந்த முனிவர்கள் இறைவனை வணங்காமல் இறைவனின் அருளை விட தங்களின் மந்திர சக்தியே பெரிது தாம் கற்ற மந்திரங்களின் மூலமாக எதையும் அடையலாம் என்ற அகங்காரத்தில் இருந்தனர். இவர்களின் அறியாமையைப் போக்க இறைவன் அழகிய உருவம் கொண்ட பிக்ஷாடனராகத் தோன்றி அந்த முனிவர்களின் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்று அங்கு இருந்த முனி பத்தினிகளின் முன்னால் பிச்சை கேட்டு நின்றார். அவரின் அழகில் மயங்கிய முனி பத்தினிகள் அவர் பின்னாலேயே மயக்கத்தில் கூடி வர ஆரம்பித்தனர். தங்களது பத்தினிகள் இப்படி ஒரு ஆடவனின் பின்னால் மயங்கி வருவதைக் கண்டு கோபமுற்ற முனிவர்கள் தமது தவ வலிமையால் மூன்றுவிதமான தீயை வளர்த்து மந்திரங்கள் மூலமாக (ஆகவனீயம் – காட்டுத்தீ, காருகபத்தியம் – வீட்டுத்தீ, தட்சிணாக்கினியம் – ஏட்டுத்தீ) கரிய நிறமுடைய ஒரு பெரிய யானையைத் தோன்றுவித்தனர். யாகத் தீயில் தோன்றிய யானை அவரை அழித்துவிடும் என்று நினைத்தார்கள். ஆனால் அந்தத் தீயிலிருந்து வெளிவந்த யானையைக் காடே அதிரும்படி பிளந்து கொன்று அதன் தோலை தனக்குப் போர்வையாக போர்த்திக்கொண்டு மூன்று வகையாக நெருப்பும் அதில் சொல்லும் மந்திரங்களும் மந்திரத்தின் பலனாக அதிலிருந்து வரும் பலனும் அனைத்தும் யாமே என்று தாருகா வனத்திலிருந்த முனிவர்களுக்கு உணர்த்தினார்.
Translation
।। Thirumoolar Thirumandhiram - Irandaam Thandhiram - 2. About eight places which were graced by Lord Shiva owing to His benevolent nature as described in Vedhas- Song 6 ( Song 344 in Thirumandhiram ) - Meaning ।।
" The place where this historical event happened was Thiruvazhuvoor. "
" The sages residing in the forest of Thaaruka did not pay their obeisance to Lord Shiva and considered that the power of their manthra is superior to God's grace and were arrogant that they could attain anything through the power of their mantharas. In order to remove their ignorance Lord Shiva appeared before them in the guise of a handsome beggar - Bikshaadanar and went to the sages' house for begging and all the wives of the sages' got attracted towards him and started following him. Upon seeing their wives following another man the sages got furious and owing to the power of their penance started three sacred fires - Forest fire, Domestic fire and fire from dried palm leaf - using their manthras and from that sacrificial fire came a huge black elephant and intended to kill the Lord as Bikshaadanar. The Lord killed that mighty elephant by splitting it which made the forest to tremble and removed the skin of the elephant and covered him. Realizing that it is Lord Shiva and that He came in order to prove to them that He is the sacrificial fire, He is the form of Manthra as well as the benefit attained through utterance of the Manthra and He is the Omnipotent, the sages realized their folly and shed their ego. "

" என்ன செய்கின்றோம் என்ன பேசுகின்றோம் என்று தெரியாமல் மதம் பிடித்த யானை போல் இருக்கும் போது"
"உயிர்கள் இறைவனை சரணடைய "
"இறைவன் கோபத்தையும் அகங்காரத்தையும் அழித்து அனைத்தும் யாமே என்று உணர்த்துகிறார்."

" Owing to the evil attribute of Anger raising within the living beings their feelings of ego too increase"
" owing to which they do not realize what they are doing or what they are talking and roam about lie an elephant in rut."
" As the souls take refuge in the Lord "
" Lord Shiva kills their anger and ego and make them realize that it is He who is filled everywhere."
