।। திருமூலர் திருமந்திரம் - இரண்டாம் தந்திரம் - 2. பதிவலியில் வீரட்டம் எட்டு - பாடல் 5 ( திருமந்திரத்தில் பாடல் 343 )- பொருள் ।।
இந்த புராணநிகழ்வு நடந்த இடம் திருவதிகை தலமாகும்.
தாருகாசுரன் என்கிற அசுரனின் மகன்களான வித்துன்மாலி, தாரகாட்சன், கமலாட்சன் ஆகிய மூவரும் மிகச்சிறந்த இறை பக்தர்கள். அவர்கள் மூவரும் பிரம்மனை நோக்கிக் கடுந்தவம் செய்து நினைத்த இடத்திற்கு உடனே பறந்து செல்லும் மூன்று கோட்டைகளையும் அவை மூன்றும் ஒன்றாக இருக்கும்போது ஒரேயொரு அம்பினால் மட்டுமே தாங்கள் அழியவேண்டும் என்றும் வரம் பெற்றனர். வரம் கிடைத்ததும் அவர்கள் தேவலோகம் அனைத்தையும் ஆட்டிப்படைத்து வந்தனர். அவர்களின் அதிகாரம் தாங்காமல் தேவர்களும் பிரம்மரும் திருமாலும் இறைவனை வேண்ட மனமிறங்கிய இறைவன் அழகிய பைரவ அவதாரம் எடுத்து தேவதச்சன் விஸ்வகர்மாவிடம் ஒரு தேர் செய்யச் சொல்லி சந்திர சூரியரே தேர்ச் சக்கரங்களாகவும், நான்கு வேதங்களே தேரில் பூட்டிய குதிரைகளாகவும் பிரம்ம தேவரே தேரை ஓட்டும் சாரதியாகவும், மேரு மலையே வில்லாகவும், வாசுகி நாகமே வில்லைப் பூட்டும் நாணாகவும், அக்கினி அம்பின் முனையாகவும், வாயு அம்பின் வாலாகவும், திருமாலே அம்பாகவும் ஆக்கி எடுத்துக்கொண்டு முப்புரத்தை வந்து சேர்ந்தார். இறை பக்தியில் மிகவும் சிறந்து விளங்கும் அசுரர்களை அழிக்க வேண்டாமென்ற பெருங்கருணையில் தமது நெற்றிக் கண்ணைத் திறந்து ஒரு பார்வை பார்க்க மூன்று கோட்டைகளும் உடனே எரிந்து சாம்பலாகி மூவரும் இறைவனின் காலடியில் விழுந்து வணங்க இறைவனும் அவர்களை ஆட்கொண்டு தமது கோயிலின் வாயிற் காவலர்களாகவும் இருவரையும் கோயிலில் செய்யும் குடமுழுக்கை ஏற்பவராக ஒருவரையும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். "
Translation
।। Thirumoolar Thirumandhiram - Irandaam Thandhiram - 2. About eight places which were graced by Lord Shiva owing to His benevolent nature as described in Vedhas- Song 5 ( Song 343 in Thirumandhiram ) - Meaning ।।
" The place where this historical event happened was Thiruvadhigai. "
" The demon Thaaragaasuran had three sons Vitthunmaali, Thaarakaatchan, Kamalaatchan and all were great devotees of the Lord. They underwent staunch penance towards Lord Brahma and as a result of it asked for a boon to provide them three forts which had the capacity to fly and their death will occur only when all the three forts are aligned in a line aimed by a single arrow. Once they got the boon they started to create trouble to Heaven where Devas and Gods reside. Unable to bear their audacious acts all the DemiGods along with Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu prayed Lord Shiva to bring an end to them. Lord Shiva too obliged and took a beutiful Bhairava incarnation and asked the divine architect Viswakarma to make a chariot whose wheels were Sun and Moon, all the four Vedhaas were the four horses pulling the chariot, Lord Brahma as the charioteer, Meru mountain as the Bow and Vaasuki serpent was its linch pin, Lord Vishnu as the arrow with Fire God as its head and Wind God as its tail and reached the place where all the three forts were aligned in a line. But witnessing that all the three demons were indeed His devotees owing to His benevolence instead of releasing the arrow He opened His third eye and burnt all the three forts turning them to ashes and the demons fell ar the divine feet of Lord Shiva and as their impurities got burnt asked for His forgivance. The Lord accepted them and made two of them as entrance guard of His divine temple and one as incharge for arranging the consecration responsibility for His temple."

"அப்பணி செஞ்சடை ஆதி புராதனன் - கங்கையைத் தன் சிவந்த சடையில் சூடியவனும் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் முதலாயும் மூலமாயும் இருப்பவனுமாகிய இறைவனை "
" முப்புரம் செற்றனன் என்பர்கள் மூடர்கள் - முப்புரம் என்னும் இடத்தை எரித்தவன் என்று கூறுபவர்கள் மூடர்கள்."
"முப்புர மாவது மும்மல காரியம் - அவர்களுக்கும் முப்புரமாக இருப்பது மும்மலங்களான ஆணவம், கன்மம், மாயை என்பது "
"அப்புரம் எய்தமை யாரறி வாரே - புரியவில்லை. அவற்றை இறைவன் அழிக்கிறான் என்பதை உணராமல் மூன்று புரங்களை எரித்ததாக கூறுபவர்களில் எவரும் அந்தப் புரங்கள் எரிந்த விதத்தை அறிந்தவர்கள் இல்லை."

" Lord Shiva is the one who is the Supreme Lord of all and the source of everyone and everything in this universe who has given place to the river Ganges in his red coiled matted tresses. "
" Fools are those who consider that Lord Shiva burnt a place called "Muppuram". "
" The word Muppuram means the three impurities attached to each soul - Ego, actions, illusory belief which considers unreal as real and real as nonexistent."
" Without understanding that Lord Shiva eradicates the three impurities attached to each soul those people who claim that the Lord burnt the place Muppuram doesn't understand how that these impurities get burnt."
