" கருத்த நிற மேனியோடு இரு கண்களும் தெரியாத அந்தகன் என்கிற அசுரன் "
" மிகக் கடுமையான தவம் செய்து சாகா வரம் பெற்று ஈரேழு பதினான்கு உலகத்தையும் வெற்றி பெற்று அதில் வாழும் அனைத்து உயிர்களையும் கொடுமை படுத்தினான். "
" இவனது கொடுமை தாங்காத தேவர்கள் இறைவனிடம் சென்று தங்களைக் காப்பாற்றுமாறு வேண்டிக்கொள்ள "
" மனமிறங்கிய இறைவன் பைரவர் அவதாரம் எடுத்து குருந்து போன்ற மூன்று இலைகளில் நடு இலை மட்டும் மிகவும் நீண்டு இருக்கும் கூர்மையான சூலாயுதத்தால் அந்தகாசுரனைக் கொன்று தேவர்களைக் காப்பாற்றினார். "
Translation
।। Thirumoolar Thirumandhiram - Irandaam Thandhiram - 2. About eight places which were graced by Lord Shiva owing to His benevolent nature as described in Vedhas- Song 1 ( Song 339 in Thirumandhiram ) - Meaning ।।
" With black skinned body and blind eyes the demon Andhagan "
" took to tough penance and won over the fourteen worlds as also got the boon of immortality owing to which he was torturing all living beings. "
" The DemiGods unable to bear his torture approached Lord Shiva and seeked His protection.
" Lord Shiva then assumed the form of Bhairavar and with the three leafed Thrishoolam (Trident weapon) pierced the Demon and saved the DemiGods. "

" அறியாமையால் மாயையில் மயங்கி கண் தெரியாமல் இருட்டில் இருக்கும் மனம் எனும் அசுரன் "
" உயிரை இறைவனை அடையவிடாமல் தீய எண்ணத்துடன் வதைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. "
" ஒரு நாள் உயிர் இறைவா என்னைக் காப்பாற்று என்று வேண்டிக்கொள்ள "
" இறைவன் மாயையில் சிக்கி இருட்டில் கண் தெரியாமல் இருக்கும் மனதில் ஒளியைக் கொடுத்து அறியாமை என்னும் தீய எண்ணங்களைக் கொன்று உயிரைக் காப்பாற்றி அருளுவார். "

" Owing to ignorance the mind gets trapped in believing the unreal as real and dwells in darkness which makes it a demon "
" preventing the soul from reaching the Divine power and with its evil thoughts the mind tortures the soul. "
" One day the soul laments to God to protect it from this situation
" and Lord Shiva owing to His benevolence removes the ignorance of the mind and thus enlightening with true knowledge therby killing all the evil thoughts of the mind and saves the soul. "
